How do you get water out of a phone speaker?
Why rice does not work
Rice absorbs moisture from air very slowly, and it does not pull water out of a sealed speaker cavity. Testing has repeatedly found it no better than leaving the phone on a shelf — and it adds a real risk of starch dust getting into the ports.
What actually helps is airflow and time. A phone left in a dry, moving-air spot for a day does better than any container trick.
The muffled sound after water
Water in the speaker mesh damps the higher frequencies first, which is why voices sound like they are behind a wall. If the sound is still muffled after the water is out, the residue is usually mineral deposits from anything other than clean water — pool, sea, or soapy water leaves a film that does not evaporate.
What actually damages a wet phone
Not the speaker: the charging port. Pushing a cable into a wet USB-C port can corrode the pins or short them, and most modern phones will refuse to charge and show a moisture warning for exactly this reason. Do not override it, and do not use compressed air — that can drive water further in.
Water-resistance ratings also degrade with age. Seals wear, and a phone rated IP68 when new is not guaranteed the same after two years of drops and temperature cycles.

- Turn the volume all the way up
The cone has to travel far enough to move the water. A quiet tone does nothing. - Point the speaker downward
Gravity does half the work. Holding the phone flat wastes most of the effect. - Play the tone for 15–30 seconds
Repeat two or three times. You will usually see droplets appear on the grille. - Let it air-dry before charging
The charging port is the part that actually gets damaged wet.
