Why a PDF?
The difference between sending a folder of photos and sending one PDF is that the recipient knows the order. A PDF fixes page sequence, orientation and scale — the document looks the same whatever device opens it.
Invoices, ID copies, signed contracts, coursework: almost every institution asks for a single file, and that is why.
Why does the file get so large?
Almost always the images. A phone camera saves a photo at 3–5 MB, so ten photos is already a 40 MB PDF. A page of text is a few kilobytes.
The Quality setting above re-encodes the images. That is lossy and permanent, so keep your originals. For document legibility, "Medium" is usually more than enough.
Why can't I search a scanned PDF?
Because a scan is a photograph. The device sees pixels, not letters. Searching requires OCR — a process that reads the shapes in the image and writes an invisible text layer beneath the page. The page looks identical but becomes searchable and selectable.
This tool does not run OCR; it places your images into a PDF as they are. If you need a searchable document, you need a tool that does OCR.
