They agree on a shared clock. Each device syncs to a common time reference and schedules its changes for absolute moments rather than reacting to a signal — reacting always drifts, because network delay varies.
This is the same principle behind synchronised lighting anywhere: schedule against a shared timeline, do not chase a live trigger.
Bright enough for a dark room, not bright enough to compete with stage lighting. Modern iPhones peak in the high hundreds of nits for full-screen content, which reads as strong indoors and disappears outdoors.
Colour matters as much as brightness — white and cyan appear far brighter to the eye than deep red or blue at identical output.
Full-screen white at maximum brightness is close to the worst case for both display power and heat. On OLED, brightness cost depends on content, so bright colours across the whole panel draw the most.
iOS will dim the screen automatically if the device gets too warm — that is thermal protection, not a fault. Keep phones off soft surfaces and out of pockets during use.
