Forgetting doses is the most common reason treatments underperform, and it is mostly a design problem rather than a discipline problem. Note: this is general information, not medical advice — questions about your own medication belong with your doctor or pharmacist.
Because taking a pill is a small, unremarkable action with no immediate consequence. Research on treatment adherence consistently finds that a large share of doses are missed, and that the biggest predictors are how complex the schedule is and how many times a day it requires.
Anchoring the dose to something you already do without fail — brushing your teeth, making coffee — works better than trying to remember a time.
They can, through habituation: a notification that looks like every other notification stops registering. People swipe it away automatically and later cannot recall whether they took the dose.
Two things help. A distinct alert that does not blend in, and logging the dose as taken rather than just dismissing the alert — the log answers the "did I?" question that dismissal cannot.
