About Foglas

The Idea

Open the app and the map is dark. As you move through the real world, the fog lifts where you go, leaving a glowing trail of your life. The more you explore, the more of your city — and the planet — comes to light.

Explore The World

• Watch your personal map grow with every walk

• Zoom out to see your discoveries glowing across the whole planet

• Track how much of each city you've revealed

• Climb 10 explorer ranks, from Doorstep Dreamer to World Wanderer

Get There Too

• Search any place and get walking, driving, or transit directions

• In-app turn-by-turn with voice guidance and rerouting

• The fog gently lifts along your route so the streets stay clear

Foglas guide

Fog is the most consistently underestimated driving hazard — not because it is rare, but because the instinct it triggers is the wrong one.

What is the biggest mistake people make driving in fog?

Using full beam headlights. Fog is suspended water droplets, and bright light scatters off them straight back at you — the brighter the beam, the whiter the wall in front of your face.

Dipped beams and fog lights sit lower and cut under the densest layer. Counterintuitive, but it is the single most useful thing to know.

How much should I slow down?

Enough to stop within the distance you can see, which in dense fog can be under fifty metres. That is a genuinely low speed, and the instinct to keep normal pace because the road feels empty is exactly what causes multi-vehicle pileups.

Increase following distance well beyond normal. The car in front becomes visible far later than you expect, and brake lights are the only warning you get.

When does fog form?

When air cools to its dew point and moisture condenses. Radiation fog forms on clear, calm nights as the ground loses heat — which is why it appears around dawn and burns off mid-morning as the sun warms the surface.

Valleys, riverbanks and low-lying roads are where it settles first and clears last, because cold air sinks. A clear hilltop tells you nothing about the dip ahead.

What should I do if fog gets too thick?

Pull off the road completely — into a car park or a side road, not the hard shoulder, where stationary vehicles get struck. Leave your lights on and stay behind a barrier if there is one.

Opening a window helps more than people expect: you hear approaching traffic long before you see it.
